Career to Date:

Nottingham Forest FC

Steve was promoted from the Youth set up at Nottingham Forest and made his first team debut in the 1986/87 season. He went on to become a talisman in the Forest side of the late eighties and nineties, and was ever present in each of the sides he played in, and managers he worked under. Steve is held in high regard by the Forest faithful after spending 13 years at the City Ground where he is considered a hero. He was initially part of a young crop of players that came into life at Forest under the famous Brian Clough and was part of the Forest side that lost the 1991 FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium against Tottenham Hotspur, as well as being part of the triumphant 1990 League Cup winning side. Steve went on to play 527 times for Forest in all competitions, scoring 11 goals between 1986 and 1999

Barnsley FC

In 1999, the then Nottingham Forest manager David Platt made Steve available for a loan move at which point he went to Barnsley, before signing a permanent deal in December 1999. He was released in the summer of 2002. Steve would also go out on loan to Walsall during his spell at Barnsley.

Grimsby Town FC

During the summer of 2002, Steve signed for Grimsby Town on a 1-year deal with fellow Barnsley defender Darren Barnard but his season was blighted by injury. Grimsby were relegated at the end of the season and Steve was not offered any extension to his deal.

Burton Albion FC

Steve signed for Burton Albion, player managed by Nigel Clough on a 1-year deal before deciding to make a step down the non-league ladder

Ilkeston Town FC

Steve signed for Ilkeston Town in the summer of 2004, where they gained promotion and formed a notable Centre Half partnership with ex Grimsby Town player Mark Lever before deciding to retire from competitive football at the end of the 2004/05 season.

Managerial Career to Date:

East Midlands Sports Academy, incorporating Steve Chettle Soccer School

Following Steve’s retirement from playing, Steve went on to run a Sports Academy promoting Primary school sports and ran his own soccer school in his home city of Nottingham. It was here he was approached by Nottingham Forest to coach the U18’s.

Nottingham Forest Fc

Steve worked through the age groups at Nottingham Forest before becoming a Full Time coach and started as assistant coach with the U18’s, before becoming Lead Professional Development Coach under Gary Brazil and also went onto manage the U23’s.

Ilkeston Football Club

During the 2013-14 season, Steve joined Ilkeston Football Club as Assistant Manager to Kevin Wilson. During his time at Ilkeston Football Club, Kevin and Steve had numerous players leave the Club to go onto play at a higher level, including players to the Football League.

Nuneaton Town FC

In the summer of 2015, Steve followed Kevin Wilson to Nuneaton and became the Assistant Manager where they both had more success in getting players into the Football League

Ilkeston Town FC

In July 2017 Steve was appointed Manager of Ilkeston Town where he gained promotion in his first season and left them at the top of the league before his approach by Notts County.

Notts County FC

In August 2018, Steve joined the backroom staff at Notts County but remained Ilkeston Town manager until a replacement was found, who was Martin McIntosh in September 2018. Steve was on the coaching staff under both Kevin Nolan and Harry Kewell whilst at Notts County, being appointed Caretaker Manager after both were sacked from their respective manager’s role.

Basford United Fc

In April 2019, Steve was named manager of Basford United signing a 4-year deal.
