Career to Date:

Simon had a successfully playing career playing over 300 appearances in the Football League and Conference from 1997 to 2008. He enjoyed the best period at Lincoln City under Keith Alexander where Play offs were reached two years in succession. Simon finished his playing career shortly after captaining Ilkeston Town in National League to promotion, scoring the winner goal in the play off final.

Sheffield Wednesday

Simon began his career as an apprentice at Sheffield Wednesday before making his professional debut for Doncaster Rovers during a loan spell. Simon was later released and moved into the Non-League

Ilkeston Town

Simon signed for Ilkeston Town in the summer of 1998 and played for 2 seasons making over 50 appearances before joining Nuneaton Borough

Nuneaton Borough

He made over 60 appearances for Nuneaton during a 2-year spell at the club.

Lincoln City  

In the summer of 2002, Simon joined Lincoln City in the Football League who was managed by Keith Alexander who was his former manager at Ilkeston Town. He earned a 1 year extension but lost his place in the team before going out on successful loans to both Macclesfield Town and Kidderminster Town.


In June 2005, Simon signed a 1 year deal, but with Scarborough in disarray, the move turned sour and left Simon looking for a new club.

York City

Simon signed for York City in the Conference National, but was offered a 12-month contract from Tamworth.


Simon played in the majority of the game in the 2006/07 season

Simon went on trial to a number of clubs including Salisbury City and Droylsden but an unfortunate injury sustained on pre-season resulted in Simon missing 4 months of the season before returning to fitness and signing for Boston United.

Boston United  

Simon signed in December 2007 but was released at the end of the season after failing to agree a new deal.

Kings Lynn

Simon scored 3 goals in his 22 appearances for Kings Lynn during his spell that ended in January 2009

Ilkeston Town

He had a brief spell at Redditch United before re-joining his former club Ilkeston Town for the remainder of the 08/09 season scoring twice on his debut. Ilkeston were promoted that season with Simon scoring the winning goal in the Play-Off Final.

Harrogate Town

Simon was appointed player / manager in May 2009. His 1st season Harrogate were relegated only being saved by Northwich’s demotion due to financial issues. His father became Chairman of Harrogate Town during the 2011/12 season. Harrogate gained promotion in the 20017/18 season to the National League. Most recently they finished 6th in the 2018/19 season.

Managerial Career to Date:

Harrogate Town 2009 to Present, managed the team to promotion to the National League in 2017/18 season and in first season gained 6th place position and qualifying for play offs in 2018-19 season. Has achieved over 550 competitive games at first team football in ten years, and is currently longest serving manager in top 5 levels of English football

Other Information:

UEFA A Licence holder

Created the first Harrogate Town youth programme ranging from ages 5-21 with the U21s winning the WRCFA U21 Floodlit League for the last two seasons.

Hands on involvement of coaching community groups including the Harrogate Drugs Rehabilitation group (CRI).

Set up charity football events including Pro-Am 7-a-side tournament raising in the region of £48,000.
