Project Description

Career to Date:

Dave is currently manager of Hartlepool United Football Club having joined the club in November 2019. Prior to this he spent nearly 8 years as manager of AFC Fylde being very successful and never finishing outside of the play off positions in any season. He took the club from Evo-Stik Division 1 North to within 90 minutes of the Football League, losing in the Promotion Final to Salford at Wembley Stadium. Joining the club in November 2011, in his time at the club, he has guided them to two championships, promotion via the play offs on one occasion and unsuccessful Play Off campaigns in the other four years. The club won the Lancashire Trophy on three occasions, the Doodson League Cup and in 2019 won the FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium defeating Leyton Orient in the final. He has been awarded Manager of the Year twice, won Manager of the Month on numerous occasions and was nominated by the league for The Bobby Moore Respect Award.

Over the near eight years at the club, Dave had a win ratio of over 55%.

His management career began back in 2010 when he was appointed as Player Manager at Colwyn Bay Football Club. During his first season he guided the club to their second successive promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier league into the Blue Square North Division.
Dave carries out his job extremely professionally, watching all levels of football both live and electronically from Evo-Stik, National League, Football League to Development matches on a weekly basis for recruitment, analysis and professional development purposes. He conducts training of high quality; he prepares professionally for matches and is tactically aware during games in order to gain positive results. Science plays a huge part in his thinking and the way he plans sessions and run the football clubs he has been involved with, with GPS data guiding most of the things they do. His ethos has been to work with the young players he recruited in order to improve them individually for the benefit of the team rather than the stereotypical non-league attitude. He has gained respect of players, opposition managers and all associated with the club and beyond.

He is a highly motivated and very ambitious person who has a burning desire to manage full-time in the Football League and higher. He believes in his ability to achieve this.

Dave is a 44-year old ex-professional footballer, who played professionally for 15 years, making over 450 Football League appearances for Tranmere Rovers, Stockport County and Bury but was forced to retire from professional football at the beginning of the 2008-2009 season through a knee injury sustained the previous season.

He joined Colwyn Bay FC as a player mid-way through the 2008/09 season and lifted the team from mid-table into the play-offs. He captained the promotion winning team 2009/10 season and stepped up to Player Manager in the summer, prior to the 2010/11 season.
His involvement in Non-League football over the past 11 years has given him excellent contacts in semi-professional football as well as maintaining extensive contacts gained through his professional career from all divisions of English Football. Dave has completed a Chartered Physiotherapy degree, gaining a 1st Class Honours (July 2011), has successfully passed his UEFA B license (March 2013) and the Youth Module 1, 2 and 3. Dave passed his UEFA A-License in April 2018. All of these are extra facets to his portfolio which will hopefully provide the best opportunity for him to be a success in full-time professional football, which is his passion.
